So we heard that the Ground hog said 6 more weeks of winter. That is not going to slow us down at all. That particular evening we decided to plant a few cups of seeds to get a head start on our garden for this year #2025. We started with the larger plants that require the most time to grow.. . . I guess they will also take up the most space in the garden so early prep is a must here.

Friends keep in mind that this is only the garden, not including what will get planted at home base or what will go to the big yard. We have started Cucumbers(8) and Pickle cucumbers(9), a Sweet watermelon variety(7), Snow peas(8), Alaska beans(5), Mammoth sunflowers(12), Cherry tomatoes(5), Normal tomatoes(5), Corn on cob(13), Eggplant(2), Carving pumpkins(7), and my ultimate favorite veggie the Bell pepper(21). If my math is correct we are only at 107 plants for this season. These are only the plants that can be started indoors in planter cups. We will also have carrots, radishes, onion lettuce and spinach as well as a few other fun plants to keep the deer out of this year.

So the answer to your question is yes, my planter cups for this year’s garden are toilet paper tubes and cut to size paper towel rolls. In my experience even though I’m only 30 I have had my own veggie gardens every year since I was around 5 with my first bag of carrot seed and only 2 years, maybe 3 tops have been a bust out of all I have ever planted. (Like I mentioned before, The deer and grasshoppers were not my friends at all!!)
The truth behind this choice, to use TP and paper towel tubes is almost to simple and in a sense it is eco friendly. A nice bonus it that this way is substatially cheaper than buying the fancy planter cups from the store. Since u have to buy them both for the house anyway why not save the garbage space. And since its cardboard it’s recycleable and breaks down fast on the terms of compost. . . Food for the plant, saves space in the garbage, still easy to plant cuz its like litterally the same size. I think it’s a win-win sitchuation.

A fun fact about my experience with gardening. . . . Once upon a time when I was horribly taken advantage of by people who i thought meant what they said instead the scam they showed later took me competley out with my last site which was its Ls place. The past is the past but that particular year I started over 1200 plants and had no room to keep these plants once they got bigger. Within two days of the plants moving outside to the beautiful garden I had created He refused to spray and the grasshoppers took out my entire garden 2 days and there was nothing more than the nubs chewed down to the dirt. This year I have way more precautions to protect our crop for the year.
